Subject: Amicus Curiae, The Official Newsletter of TxAPPS - Edition 2
From: Texas Association of Professional Process Servers

Edition 2 - Fall 2017
The Texas Association of Professional Process servers came into existence on April 10, 2017, when a handful of certified process servers banded together with a plan to stand on 5/2/2017 at the Texas Capitol in opposition to HB 2412, proposed legislation that would have circumvented the JBCC process server certification program.   TxAPPS is that group of certified process servers who not only support the Supreme Court and JBCC, but want to work with them to help refine and perfect the Process Servers Certification Program and the future of the process service industry in the State of Texas.  But, an Association is only as good as those who are actively volunteering and participating to produce for that Association.

That being said, TxAPPS is looking for process servers who wish to join us as members, and also volunteer to help the Association meet its goals.  Currently, producing and providing a regular and informative newsletter for Process Servers is top of our agenda!  Our section "News from Around the Lone Star State" is lacking this edition because we've not heard from you!  TxAPPS wants to know when local courts changes rules, processes, or procedures that affect process servers or services in your area!  Sharing is caring for your fellow process servers, as we all encounter issues when interacting with various courts across the State, since they all seem to have their own ways of doing things.  Please contact our editor and Vice President, Jessica Jester Saucedo at vp@txapps.org to share information for "News from Around the Lone Star State".

TxAPPS is not only an Association for Process Servers, but also for Attorneys, Paralegals, Court Reporters, and other professionals who believe that process servers should be educated, certified, and properly vetted before they knock on the doors of citizens of the State of Texas!  If you have a product or service that could be used by or benefit certified process servers,  you can be a member of TxAPPS.  Process server educators, we need your support!  We invite everyone to join us as a member and contribute to our purposes!  Again, an Association is only as good as those who are actively volunteering and participating to produce for that Association.  We need the best members to build the best process servers organization in Texas!

NEW!  JBCC Online Certification, Registration & Licensing System - September 2017

In case you haven’t heard, the JBCC has made some innovative changes and additions to their website that directly affect all certified process servers!

Until recently, if you were looking for a process server on the JBCC’s website, you would simply go to the link:  http://www.txcourts.gov/jbcc/process-server-certification/ and you could download a full list of all the process servers in the State of Texas as a .pdf file or an excel spreadsheet.  Now, there is no more list to download…

The JBCC has moved that list to a new system; an online certification system.  All certified process servers should have received an email from the JBCC before the end of September, inviting them to register and build their profile in the new system.  The new online system is available at:  https://jbcctexas.txcourts.gov/.

With the new system comes a new way to search for a process server in the State of Texas...  Click here to download the full article or visit our News/Articles page to read more about these changes.

To Associate or Not to Associate?
Currently, it seems that every professional association out there is struggling for money and membership.  For a business/trade organization, membership is money... and money is membership.  The more members you have, the more money you have to do things or provide for your members.  There is a constant struggle to maintain a positive balance when each and every member has their own expectation of what the organization should or must provide to keep them as a member.  This is why organizations should have a direct and clearly-stated purpose.   Read more...

This edition of our Newsletter ends with our sharing that our founding President, Travis Wyatt, has resigned his position for personal reasons beyond his control.  The TxAPPS Board of Directors has chosen NOT to replace Mr. Wyatt as President at this time.  As per our newly instated bylaws, there are no members presently eligible to serve as the President.  We intend to address this matter at the Annual Members Meeting to be held in February 2018, and hopefully appoint an interim President to serve until our founding members each have 2 years to satisfy the requirements of the bylaws to legitimately fill the seat.  TxAPPS sincerely appreciates the sacrifices made by Mr. Wyatt to help organize and found the Association and his leadership is already severely missed.

As always, we sincerely appreciate our sustaining members and sponsors:
