Edition 3 - Summer 2018
The first annual members meeting of the Texas Association of Professional Process Servers was held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in Waco, TX.  Association business conducted included voting in a new Board of Directors.  Educators from around the State of Texas attended the meeting as guest speakers, discussing their different approaches to educating Texas process servers, and the courses they have available and will be bringin the future.  We discussed prototypes for membership ID cards and useful items we will be making available for members to order through our website.

The new Board of Directors has taken the reigns, and since have attended the 2018 NAPPS Conference in San Diego, California, as well as a number of meetings across the State.  The TxAPPS Meet & Greets have continued to be successful.  We appreciate those around Waxahachie who attended in June.   In July, we held the first-ever process "Server Social" after a board meeting in San Antonio.  This Board of Directors is certainly making it their proirity to intruce TxAPPS as an association that legitimately cares about process servers and those working in this profession.  For more information about the 2018 TxAPPS Board of Directors, click here.

This TxAPPS Board of Directors is on the move!  We've been taking our board of directors meetings around the great State of Texas, inviting process servers to sit in, participate, and join our organization!  Keep watch in your emails for blasts from us, inviting you to a meeting your area in the coming months!  We're designated extra time after our board meetings for the process "Server Social", and encourage you to attend!  Keep watch in the Events Calendar as we update everything we've got planned as quickly as we have all the details in place.  We look forward to visiting with you in the near future!

Looking to the Future

As TxAPPS advances in the process service industry, we continue to strive towards the future in education, legislation and technology.  We are a proud association bringing together process servers to positively impact the direction of our state.  TxAPPS strengthens the process service industry by advocating the associations philosophy and initiatives, and by continually empowering the knowledge of process servers.

We recently held our “Server Social” in San Antonio.  It was a great meeting and several members and non-members attended the social.  Networking with other process servers has always been a highlight when a group of process servers gather.  It’s an extension of business to meet and grow along with other process servers who in the future can assist in areas you may not be able to cover. Our next “Server Social” is scheduled on September 16th from 3pm – 5pm at Spring Creek Barbeque in Pearland, TX!

During the last few months, several TxAPPS members have been inquiring of various situations, with one being digital signatures or e-signatures on affidavits by process servers.  This has been discussed on many levels for the past few years, but now some larger companies are implementing the procedure, with a few making it mandatory.

The big question is the legality and where in the law it’s accepted.  On August 3rd, a few board members attended the JBCC meeting held in Austin.  During the public speaking, I had the opportunity to present this concern to the board of Commissioners to learn of their knowledge and acceptance of the trend occurring in Texas.

There was much discussion among the Commissioners and it was decided by the Commission to pass this concern to the staff to research the issue.  They responded on August 8th with a letter to my email; however, questions are still running rampant.  In order to navigate the confusion, I’ve scheduled appointments for next week, with some of the judges in my area for their input on digital signatures/e-signatures.

On another topic, I have joined groups found through Facebook that are privately used by process servers.  I have found the many topics discussed to be most interesting.  For both new servers and seasoned servers, these groups have very interesting topics of just about everything currently being discussed.  It’s very educational and sometimes humorous to read what’s going on around the nation. If you have not joined the groups, they are Server Nation, Process Server Chatterbox and Process Server Nationwide Connection Group.  There are probably site groups out there, but these are the ones I’m involved in at this time.  If you know names of the other viable groups, please share your findings at TxAPPS at admin@txapps.org.

We are gearing up for legislation and once again, it could be a big fight at the Capital.  During this election season, new candidates will be voted in as new representatives while some may retain their office.  If you know who your representatives are, or will be meeting your new representatives, it’s always a good time to let them know who you are and the industry you represent.

I was recently invited to attend the McLennan County Republican Women’s luncheon held on August 14th.  This was my first meeting of this type and I was amazed at all the people in attendance that I already knew.

The speaker was Texas State Senator Donna Campbell, District 25 in the San Antonio area.  She was an amazing and dynamic speaker.  At the end of the meeting, I had the opportunity to meet her one on one.  I introduced myself and before our conversation ended, I told her I would be seeing her in Austin during legislation which opened the door for TxAPPS.

In closing, if I can give you one piece of advice it would this: “Be Yourself and Get Connected.”  Don’t be afraid of stepping out there.  Fear of failure is one of the biggest distractions we use to stop us from advancing, progressing, and creating a difference in our lives, in other’s lives, and in the business world of process service.

“Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and don’t give up”, Rachel Corrie.

Thank you.

It’s been a long, hot summer and despite the heat, TxAPPS has been working tirelessly for its members.  Our continuing quest for process server identification cards is almost complete.

First, while the card was in completion, TxAPPS had the design reviewed and approved by the JBCC.  It was the JBCC’S specific request that all references to the Supreme Court be omitted from id cards, business cards, door hangers, etc.  The final version has been reviewed and approved by our Board members and is currently being set up by our ID card partner, Diamond Business Services.

When the ID card rollout is announced the process of submitting your ID information and picture will be easy---just download the app for either IPhone or android phones and follow the simple instructions.

TxAPPS used our meeting with the JBCC as an opportunity to get to know the Executive Director Jeff Rinard, its legal counsel, and staff on a personal basis.  We offered our knowledge and expertise of the process serving industry anytime we can be of service.

Existing members should contact the membership director for instructions of how to order their membership ID Card.

As anyone who has ever been involved with a newly established non-profit organization undoubtedly knows, money is always tight, especially in the formative years.

Trying to address our limited funds, your TxAPPS Board has been watching your pennies carefully.  The Board has consistently donated our personal funds for food and supplies served at our Meet & Greets.

Further, we are trying to be creative in our fundraising efforts --- including what has become a new TxAPPS tradition…The Guessing Game.  It gives everyone an opportunity to contribute to our bottom line, while vying for cash and prizes.

So far, we’ve guessed numbers in containers of M & M’s, Fruit Loops, paper clips, and who knows what’s next?

Watch for other creative and original fundraisers coming in the future to benefit your TxAPPS organization and be prepared to open up your heart and pocketbook!

NAPPS Convention 2018 - San Diego, California

Destinee Serdinia

People, it took me 4 years as a process server to finally join NAPPS. I have to say, DO NOT WAIT so long!

Then it took me 2 years to get to a NAPPS Convention. Again, I say, DO NOT WAIT so long!

And what a convention it was!!!

My fellow Texas Association of Professional Process Servers members: Kathy Burrow – President; Jessica Jester Saucedo – Vice President; Scott Thomas - Director; Members: Mark Burrow, Blu Daniels, Nancy Powell & Gean O Smith; and myself, Destinee F Serdinia – your Membership Director, were all in attendance. What a positive showing from our young organization and the Great State of Texas!

While Kathy and Mark Burrow made the scenic drive from Texas, Jessica, Blu and I decided to make our bucket list check-off to the world renown, San Diego Zoo. We all had a blast and even had a picture taken with Panda’s in our hands.

Getting down to business did not take long. All the representing state organizations were given an opportunity to introduce themselves. Kathy, Jessica, along with myself, must have made an impression! After we did our short presentation to the convention attendees, our organization gained 4 associate memberships!

Convention Training, Elections and Awards were all on the agenda but you couldn’t beat the Hawaiian Theme Luau on the Lawn. It was an unusually cool evening but luckily, we had light jackets from the plane ride over. Scott even got in his hula lesson.

Next year, NAPPS Convention 2019 – Orlando, Florida

Lets all plan on it!!!

Your membership director,
Destinee F. Serdinia

Special Events

Toni Luttrell - 8/26/2018

You have probably heard that one of TxAPPS’ goals is to stay actively in touch with our members.  To that end, we have been scheduling various events including “Meet & Greet” barbeques and “Server Social Hours” in various parts of the state.

Our first Meet & Greet was last September at the City Park in Buda.  It was very well attended for a first event, perhaps because Ace Acevedo and his lovely wife were in charge of the grill!  And the food was everything we all expected.

Our second area Meet & Greet BBQ was this past June in Waxahachie.  Also well attended by both members and non-members, we have found that these events give us all time to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.  We’ve also realized that our events are a great way to discuss membership opportunities with non-members and seek their continuing support.

Following our successful Meet & Greets, we have branched out to take our Board meetings to our membership as well.  In july, our first TxAPPS “Live And In-Person” Board Meeting took place at Grady’s BBQ in San Antonio.  As previously, members and non-members were invited to attend and stay afterwards for the ‘Servers Social Hour” to visit and exchange ideas.

Our next “Live And In-Person” Board Meeting will be Sunday, September 16th in Houston.  Details are being confirmed at press time, so put it on your calendar now and look for your personal invitation to attend coming soon.

Photos from the San Antonio, TX area process "Server Social" are available online now!
TxAPPS members Jessica Jester Saucedo and Thomas Saucedo donated a limited number of t-shirts to TxAPPS, in effort to help promote and grow the Texas Association of Professional Process Servers.  72 t-shirts are available in sizes ranging from medium to 3XL.  T-shirts will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis to donors who make a contribution of $15 or more to the Association.  All proceeds from these donations will be submitted to the TxAPPS general operating fund.  We appreciate your support and hope you enjoy our TxAPPS pride t-shirts!
